Abstract | Significant scholarship on the role of the united States of America in the northern Ireland conflict currently exists, largely focused on the involvement of uS politicians in the peace process and the organizations that supported the Irish Republican Army throughout the conflict. there were also, however, ties between Canada and actors in northern Ireland that have been almost entirely ignored in existing literature on the international dimension to the conflict. this article will examine the connections between Canadian individuals and organizations and the northern Ireland conflict, with particular focus on groups that established ties with paramilitary groups in northern Ireland, and in doing so will seek to provide a foundational narrative for future study of the topic. We attempt to place the study predominantly in the historiography of Canadian relations with northern Ireland. |
