Abstract

The African Union (AU) Agenda 2063 envisions the integration of the continent's economies to expand regional opportunities and improve their participation in the global economy. The Constitutive Act of the AU lists accelerating economic integration and developing and promoting a common trade policy within the African continent among the AU's key objectives. Regional economic integration has recently gained momentum with the advent of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) that officially commenced trading on 1 January 2021.
