Abstract | Sound Fountains was commissioned by Yorkshire Sculpture Park as part of an artist residency. The residency gave opportunities to develop the work further using sensors and new digital technologies and to further investigate site specific elements. The work was installed in the chapel on the parks estate. The chapel vestry was used to house Solo Pool – a new sculpture created to explore the direct interaction of participants who were invited to make sounds into a microphone to see the immediate effect of the sound of their voice on the water surface. Sound Inventory was exhibited in the concourse of the main building. This Photographic work involves various sounds from around the world, which Locke has recorded and collected for almost two decades. Some of these processed samples are then passed through water and captured using digital stereomicroscopy to create beautiful and intriguing images, each revealing a clear visual relationship with the original sound source. Each sound, place of recording, date and time is notated in an inventory chart. |
