Description | This exhibition presents the work of graphic design and illustration students from the University of Derby in exploring issues related to freedom of expression and its constraints, particularly in relation to freedom of the press. Freedom of the press has long been an issues of concerns that casts a shadow over many of life's fundamental problems and issues and this exhibition uses professional and creative environment to raise awareness of a number of contentious issues and shines a light on highly contentious topics. The exhibition expresses a variety of perspectives and interpretations of what press freedom means with issues from the Sun's controversial narration of Hillsborough to Putin's control of Russian media. The exhibition opens a door to an important debate relating to the relationship between freedom of speech and freedom of the press. Funded by the AHRC and a component of the 'Defining freedom of the press' project. This important exhibition provides a public facing window into exploring issues of press freedom and freedom of expression. The exhibition runs alongside the Media Ethics and Press freedom symposium which draw input from a range of scholars, third sector organisations, press regulators and members of the public in debating the future of press ethics and press freedom. |
