Description

Exhibition of images with expanded cinema and music performances. This exhibition is an outcome of a large-scale cine/sound installation staged in March this year as a sonic vigil to state support and solidarity with Ukraine and Ukrainians in the face of the catastrophic invasion by Russian forces. The prints shown were digital scans from sections of the film made from the footage used the first performance of Hymn for Ukraine, The Trashed, Derby, 17th and 18th March 2022. They sections of footage were various states of distress. Some were pristine, having never been projected (see the image from the morning of the 24th February). Some are ruined beyond repair, a consequence of hours of cycling through a projector and between guitar strings. Each image is made up of 24 frames, referring to the frame capture per second for cinematic film and for the hours in each day. The exhibition of these visual works was accompanied by two evenings of performed works.
