Description

16mm cine film with structure improvised performance on guitar

Performed at Déda, 10th December 2022

Duration 14:05

Making of the cine film was initiated towards the end of February 2020, when the impact of COVID19 was making itself felt across the world. A clockwork cine camera was trained on a single bud on an old apple tree in my garden. Filming ended when the ovary heads unexpectedly dropped in May. A combination of continuous filming is interspersed with stopped frames to disrupt the conventionally smooth representation of the flow of time to impose a sense of trauma to the event of revealing, opening, and eventual decline.

The work has been revisited for public performance to include improvised guitar as a sonic response to our heightened relationship with nature during the COVID periods of mass isolation. It was staged and performed at Déda as part of an evening of experimental music and film.
