Abstract

At a time when UK schools are experiencing backlash for ensuringtheir LGBT+ colleagues and students are included, this article exam-ines the ways in which schools create and uphold cisgender hetero-sexuality as the dominant narrative. The article presents thefindings from four participants who took part in a photo elicitationstudy to represent their experiences as LGBT+ secondary schoolteachers in England. The photos and interviews reveal the myriadways in which cisgender heteronormativity is produced in schools. The data also provides vital examples of how this dominant dis-course is beginning to be challenged, and where small everydayacts can successfully disrupt the production of heteronormativity.
