Abstract | In this work, a high spatial resolution laser-cavity extinction technique is developed to measure the soot volume fraction from low-soot producing flames. We have applied the technique to a series of laminar-diffusion hydrocarbon-air flames. The measurements show good agreement with available results using laser-induced Incandescence (LII) and single point extinction. Sensitivity analysis shows that the measurement uncertainty of this technique is significantly higher than a single-pass laser-cavity system, and the measurement threshold can be as low as ppb lev- els. |
