Abstract | The practice of Knowledge Management in many organisations is based on the approach that all “knowledge” in the repositories is carefully curated through a quality assurance and managerial process. This is particularly the case in organisations where KM is closely linked to document management or similar types of systems. Processes such as document review and sign-off are often considered vital to ensure the validity and veracity of the knowledge store. The world of Big Data and the Internet of Things (IoT), however, does not cooperate with this conception. Instead, as John Easton suggested in 2012, it is very probable that over 80% of all data available, especially that which is derived from Big Data and the IoT, is of uncertain veracity. It is not that it is all wrong but that we do not know which data are true and which data are not and that it is often very difficult to determine which is which. This workshop will enable practitioners to develop a clear understanding of how to obtain value from BDA and the IoT in ways that are compatible with Knowledge Management, using the principles of Information and Corporate Governance. |
