Description | This bespoke performance made originally for for The Case of Pastuso in Nevada, USA, and reimagined as a sequel for How Love Lives in Two Places, an exhibition for FORMAT23, critically considers the colonial British legacy in the Americas. Jingo Jango – colloquially translating to ‘ridiculous patriotic war mongerer’ – seeks to critique the gestural, performative behaviors of both the ignorant tourist and the audacious colonizer as a homogenized caricature. This work provides an experimental, yet problematic tackling of this burden with an attempted unshackling of a regrettable yet acknowledged ancestral history. Sequel performed in March 2023 for FORMAT International Photography Festival, University of Derby, UK. |
