Abstract | There is robust evidence for the treatment targets and risk factors that need to be addressed if intervention with men with sexual convictions is to be successful. However, there is much less research and attention examining the context or situation of that treatment. This is important as research rarely finds an effect for prison-based intervention for men with sexual convictions. Thus, the rehabilitative climate of a prison could have serious implications for rehabilitation and intervention. This chapter will explore these issues in more detail. It will first consider the definitional issues when considering a rehabilitative climate, then move to consider the importance of accounting for prison climate in programme design, through to examining why considering wider environment is important for practice and future directions. |
