Abstract | Cognitive skills programmes are cognitive-behavioural programmes designed to help offenders solve problems and make personal decisions more effectively by helping offenders learn how, rather than what, to think (Travers et al., 2014). The targets of cognitive skills programmes are generally impulse control, emotional regulation, anti-social cognition, consequential thinking and social problem-solving skills (Travers et al., 2014; Papalia, 2020). This paper will highlight the results of a large-scale qualitative study (n=50) investigating the impact of the Thinking Skills Programme on prisoners. The poster wil showcase themes on reconstruing relationships, development of self and emotional regulation, and the importance of compassionate and 'authentic' therapists. |
