| Abstract | Cyberbullying negatively impacts students and is a concern in educational settings. This chapter first reviews the context of cyberbullying, the impact it has on young people, and how its negative consequences spill into the school environment. We then discuss the role of teachers in addressing and preventing cyberbullying and the challenges they experience in doing so. These include the willingness of youths to disclose cyberbullying, the inadequacy of effective interventions in the educational settings, and concerns about who shoulders the responsibility to tackle it. We then examine how teachers’ experience and knowledge of cyberbullying can impact their use of preventive strategies and how this in turn accentuates the need to discuss how teachers can perceive and respond to cyberbullying. Finally, we look at ways to address cyberbullying in the school environment and possible strategies to address it. |
