Abstract | This paper investigates how social enterprises perceive the social responsibility of their business, with the purpose of contributing to the debate about the ethicality of this type of businesses (Chell et al., 2016; Bull & Ridley-Duff, 2019). The paper researches the personal values of the social entrepreneur, their understanding of social responsibility and sustainability, as well as specific social and ethical actions implemented in relation to the social mission. Through appreciating the ethicality of social enterprises, social entrepreneurship can be viewed as starting to redefine common assumptions about the market-based system and its uses (Wilson & Post, 2013), as well as the underpinning ethical theories evaluating such categories (Bull & Ridley-Duff, 2019). |
