Abstract

This book reading and research presentation embarked on a journey into the intricacies of entertainment through an exploration derived from recent publication ‘Entertainment in the Performing Arts'(Marshall, A. Entertainment in the Performing Arts. London Routledge - Taylor and Francis)

This presentation investigated the fundamental question that has intrigued humanity for centuries: 'What is entertainment?'. Through an examination of innate cravings for amusement, the evolving landscape of entertainment was navigated, driven by technological advancements and societal shifts.

Challenging conventional perspectives on audience gratification, the elusive nature of 'entertainment' was dissected, offering a fresh perspective on its complex dimensions within the performing arts. Drawing upon research highlighted in the book, participants were guided on a thought-provoking journey, encouraged to reflect and define their own unique interpretations of entertainment.

Tailored for performing arts students, aspiring artists, and entertainment enthusiasts alike, this presentation dove into the heart of what captivates, inspires, and fulfils us in the world of performing arts. Participants were prepared to redefine their understanding of entertainment and discover the transformative power it holds for both creators and spectators.
