Abstract | Green growth plays a pivotal role in sustainable development as it balances economic growth and the care for the natural environment. There is a district lack of data on the green growth trends regionally and nationally. This report is based on a 9-year study of the green growth trends in the East Midlands undertaken by the Derby Business School and the East Midlands Chamber. Collected as part of the Chamber’s Quarterly Economic Survey (QES), this unique data set of 343 business responses presents an insightful picture of the business engagement with the green growth. 43% of regional businesses generate turnover from green goods and services, an increase of 7% on last year’s figures. Businesses urgently require support with decarbonisation, pathways to nature recovery, and green skills development. Overall, there has been a two-fold increase in the green growth activity in the East Midlands during the 2015-2024 period. The report urges policy and business support agencies to work collaboratively to develop green growth capability and capacity for sustainable regional development. |
