Abstract

The Green Entrepreneurs Fund Programme (GEF) was £2 million grant scheme established by Derbyshire County Council (DCC) to address both national and local priorities in low carbon and alternative energy sectors. Designed and delivered in partnership with the University of Derby, the project delivered carbon reduction support to over 70 SMEs supporting energy efficiency improvements and innovation in green products and services. Data from the impact survey shows that 97% of supported organisations reported meaningful
reductions in their carbon emissions; 77% reduction in operating costs, and 93% stated an uptake of new technologies. In addition to economic and environmental outcomes, GEF participating businesses reported improved social value by employing locally, improvements in staff wellbeing and engagement with local community.
