Towards Connected Places: Insights into Actions St George’s House,Windsor Castle

Closed consultation in partnership with Socitm Monday 18th – Tuesday 19th March 2024.

The consultation formed part of the Society for innovation, technology and modernisation (Socitm) work on championing place-based leadership and connected places. The consultation built on the findings of the successful Socitm-St George’s House consultation in 2021 on Resilient people, communities and places. That consultation led to:

formation of the Socitm Institute;
launch of the 12 local government digitalisation outcomes;
sponsorship of the most recent St George’s House consultation on AI threats and opportunities; and
establishment in January 2024 of the Socitm-Impera partnership working to redefine how local government turns insight into actions.

This invitation-only, high-level consultation with some 30 key policy influencers drawn from the public, private, third and academic sectors, once again in partnership with St George’s House at Windsor Castle.

This internationally renowned centre, established by the late Duke of Edinburgh in 1966, exists to nurture wisdom through dialogue on contemporary issues of national and international significance.

The twenty-four hour consultation provided a unique opportunity to stimulate debate and thought leadership on the issues of empowering and enabling place-based leadership and transformation in an era of devolution and the growing impact of artificial intelligence.

The outcome of the consultation brought diverse interests together, with the aim of providing a unique opportunity to address these issues and to consider how the use of AI/emerging technologies and data can assume even greater relevance in preparation for the societal and environmental challenges that lie ahead.
