Abstract | In this chapter, we discuss the changes and approaches to neonatal care over the last 70 years. We provide an introduction to the concepts of pre-viability, bioethics, approaches, management and detection of newborn pain, parental inclusion in decision making, and the role of evidence-based practice. This chapter describes the changing attitudes and advances in neonatal care that have resulted in increased survival rates of preterm neonates and the need for healthcare staff to adapt and reconsider their approaches to neonatal care. |
