| Abstract | This chapter begins with a brief definition of what Sensory Nurturing Interventions (SNIs) are, before moving on to a brief overview of their suitability to be delivered to prematurely born and hospitalised newborns. The broad range of SNIs are, then, differentiated by their type (multi- or unimodal) and the sensory modality they stimulate. We place a particular emphasis, here, on touch-based interventions and distinguish between those that are passive (containment holding / Kangaroo Mother Care / skin-to-skin) and those that are active (baby massage / TAC-TIC). Throughout the text, we provide detail on the way each approach is delivered and the outcomes observed when delivering them. |
