| Abstract | This project aims to develop a blueprint for a co-created, distributed, community-based manufacturing platform in the UK with a business model to support its financial viability and scalability. The research questions which we address are: • What are the challenges faced by the local communities/population in getting products repaired or manufactured, in getting employment and in acquiring digital skills? For local manufacturers in adopting digital manufacturing and in attracting a digitally literate workforce? For local councils in engaging communities in digital manufacturing-related skill building and employment generation? • How can a community-based distributed manufacturing platform be co-created to improve the perception of the local communities/population towards manufacturing as a career choice for themselves and their children, to reskill the local community, and to cater to the repair and manufacturing demands of the local community? • What will be the characteristics of the business model, which will help in sustaining and scaling up such a co-created community-based distributed manufacturing platform? |
